about

I believe in the quiet things. In beauty that doesn’t need to be loud. In ideas that grow slowly out of everyday life – somewhere between children’s laughter, stillness, nature, and a lovingly set table.

I love soft fabrics and beautiful textiles, books that carry me into other worlds, conversations that stay with me, and music that gently touches the soul. I love the first flowers of spring and those first warm days after winter, when everything slowly comes back to life. I love the tender in-between moments, guitar music by the campfire, fresh mozzarella, newly made beds, silence filled with birdsong, children’s giggles, colourful garlands, and colour combinations that feel perfectly made for each other.

I love everything that makes life more beautiful. And even if I sometimes lose myself in the tiny details – the search is always worth it. Because so often, that’s exactly where the magic is hiding. With our own hands, we can do so much to make every day a little brighter, softer, and more colourful.

I want to share with you what I create and what inspires me – and it makes me truly happy when you share your ideas with me too.

Welcome to FridaMelacavo !

Feel free to send me a message - I look forward to reading from you...

Welcome – I’m really glad you’re here.

Maybe you know the feeling of being caught between a thousand obligations and still wishing you had the time and energy to make your home feel more beautiful and more like yourself.

I know that feeling very well. You’d like to create something with your own hands, to surround yourself with things that make you smile whenever you see them – but the days are full, time runs fast, and the search for “the right thing” can feel endless.

That’s exactly why I’m here: To offer simple, beautiful ideas that are actually doable. To help you turn your home (and your everyday life) into a place where you truly feel at home – without stress, without perfectionism.

Here, you’ll find things you probably didn’t even know you were looking for:

step-by-step tutorials that are easy to follow, ideas for decoration, cushions, lamps, furniture, accessories, gifts and wrapping. Inspiration to turn everyday objects into small eye-catchers. And, above all, the reassurance that you don’t need to be an expert to create something lovely.

Because sometimes it’s just a small detail – a vase, an earring, a touch of colour – that changes the feeling of an entire day.

Who am I?

I’m Frida – mother, illustrator and dreamer. I enjoy being creative and letting small stories grow out of simple materials.

For me, home is a place of warmth and security. A place where children can play, where things don’t need to be perfect, and where there is still a sense of beauty and a bit of order.

Motherhood shapes my everyday life and everything I do. Not as an idealised image, but as real life: tiredness, wonder, doubts, closeness. From this, my way of looking at the world has grown. I believe that children are not a side story in life, but a doorway back to something original and honest – also for adults.

I’ve always been interested in interiors, room design and everything that creates atmosphere. By profession, I am a doctor – and for me, the link is clear: whether you’re looking after your health or designing your home, it is always about feeling well.

I live in the Black Forest, and nature is my main source of inspiration. I like combining natural materials with modern elements, flea market finds and heirlooms from my great-grandparents. I enjoy giving objects a new life: a jar becoming a vase, a bottle turning into a candle holder, an old piece of furniture looking fresh again.

During my parental leave, the idea for this blog started to grow. At first, I just wanted to document my own projects – as a way of valuing my time and my work. Later I thought: why not share them? Why not support others who are looking for ideas for a warm and beautiful home?

In my texts and illustrations, I often move between poles: between being an adult and being a child, between order and chaos, between the wish for calm and the busy reality of family life. I don’t want to give fixed answers, but to open a space where questions are allowed and where answers can develop in their own way.

What does “melacavo” mean?

“Melacavo” is a play on the Italian phrase me la cavo – meaning “I can handle it” or “I’ll manage”, a bit like the line from the Beatles song: “I get by (with a little help from my friends)”. Inside the word you can also find mela (apple in Italian) and cavo (to bring something to light, like gold from a mine).

I like the idea of highlighting everyday things, appreciating them and letting their quiet beauty show.

What you’ll find at FridaMelacavo

It’s not about doing more and more, but about doing things more consciously – with what you already have, in tune with the seasons and with your current stage of life.

Frida as illustrator & the world of frifri

As an illustrator, I like to work slowly and carefully. I draw by hand in a soft, watercolour-like style on the iPad. I’m not trying to please everyone, but to capture and preserve something: feelings, transitions, small inner truths. My characters are not an escape from reality, but a kind of mirror. They stand for protection, courage and sensitivity, and for the right to remain gentle in a world that can sometimes feel fast and demanding.

From this mindset, the frifri Shop by Melacavo was created: a small online space where hand-illustrated family planners, calendars, posters, baby journals, postcards and gift ideas are developed – with the intention of making everyday life a bit more structured and at the same time a bit more special.

My dream

My dream is to create connections – with you, with other creatives, with magazines and shops. I would love this blog to become a place where joint projects and collaborations can grow.

I’m always happy to hear from you: feel free to write, leave a comment, and if you like what you find here, share it with others who might enjoy it too.

Maybe something here resonates with you because a part of it already exists within you.
If so, you’re in the right place – to browse, to make things yourself, to gather ideas and to shape your everyday life in a way that feels a little calmer and a little more beautiful.

Enjoy your time here at FridaMelacavo.
