Natural DIY table decoration: acorn mushrooms

Crafting acorn mushrooms for a mindful autumn atmosphere

ree

Autumn is here, and with it comes the season for cozy decorations. Why not try something really special this year? In this article, we'll show you how to make adorable mushrooms out of acorns to transform your home into an autumnal oasis. These mushrooms are suitable as decorations for indoors and outdoors and will add a lovely touch to any front door or table.

For the autumn decoration you will need:

  • Acorn caps (freshly collected or purchased)

  • Small sticks (5-7 cm long each)

  • Branch as a base

  • Wood drill bit

  • Hot glue gun

Step-by-step instructions
  1. First, you need to collect acorns... Perhaps you feel like taking a little break for an autumn walk anyway and come back with bags full of autumn treasures. If you have children, they will surely enjoy helping you collect them. You only need the caps of the acorns; we don't need the acorns themselves for this project.

  2. You're sure to find small sticks and a branch to your liking along the way. I personally like birch branches, but the branch can come from any tree.

  3. Use a wood drill to drill several holes randomly into the top of the branch you want to use as a base. Make sure to space the holes so that a small acorn mushroom can grow out of each one... The diameter of the drill holes should match the thickness of the small sticks.

  4. Now glue the mushrooms together with hot glue: place one acorn cap on each small stick and let them dry. Then insert a small mushroom into each of the holes and adjust them. Depending on the situation, it may be easier to insert the sticks into the holes first and then glue the cap in place – just try out what is easier for you.

Voilà! Your fall decorations are ready! There are many ways to use them to decorate your home:

  • Set an autumnal table with the mushrooms as the centerpiece.

  • Place them on a tray together with chestnuts and leaves for a rustic look.

  • Decorate your windowsill or living room shelf with your DIY mushrooms.

  • Let the mushrooms welcome your guests as decorations in front of your front door or apartment door.

  • Give them as autumnal gifts to friends and family.

With a few simple materials and a little time, you can make these adorable acorn mushrooms yourself and add an autumnal touch to your home.
